John Sprague - Pipe Major
Grade 1 piper and current Pipe Major, John is also the teacher/instructor to many current and aspiring pipers in the Washington D.C metro area. Visit www.spraguebagpipeschool.com for more information on lessons.

Jim Allen - Corporal Drummer
Jim joined the band as a tenor drummer in the fall of 2003. He is a veteran of drum & bugle corps and an accomplished musician on several different instruments.

Colin Agnew -Recruit Piper
Colin has been practicing with CAPD since 2011. He plays pipes with Fairfax County Firefighters Pipe band and tenor drums with the City of Washington Pipe Band.

Dave Anglin - Recruit Piper
A former drum major with another local pipe band, Dave enjoys mountain biking, backpacking, and manages to get in some mountaineering. He also serves as the main entertainment stage manager at the annual Celebrate Fairfax festival.

Homer Babcock - Sergeant Piper/Secretary
Homer, a former Pipe Major of the band, was one of the original "founders" of the band. Homer is truly a "country gentleman" and as the Secretary keeps the band affairs and all of us in order! Homer is a steam locomotive nut.

Neal Bankenstein -Recruit Drummer
Neal is a new snare drummer who we hope will become a strong addition to the ranks in the near future.

Ray Bilter - Recruit Piper
Since joining CAPD in 2011 as a recruit piper, Ray has made his mark with his infectious enthusiasm and good humor. He works on Capital Hill as a staffer to Senator Stabenow of Michigan.

Judi Blaine-Stewart - Recruit Piper
A former member of the Faifax County Deputy Sheriffs Pipe Band, Judi entered the CAPD pipes ranks in 2010 and is loving every Thursday night's practice!

Terry Brenzo - Corporal Piper
Terry is a Grade 3 piper that got hooked on bagpipes soon after his son Matt began taking lessons. He has been with the band since 2005. He's also an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.

Mike Bryan - Corporal Drummer
Mike has been one of our most consistent bandsmen since joining CAPD in 2008. He makes a stong contribution to the drum ranks and takes over "lead tip" duties when Jim Stickley is unavailable.

John Cornicelli- Piper
John came to CAPD in 2010 from the Fairfax County Deputy Sheriff's band. He's is a high school teacher and meteorologist by trade.

Rob Deer - Recruit Piper
Formerly with the Fairfax County Deputy Sheriff's band, Rob has been practicing with CAPD and hopes to join the raks in 2012.

Mike Dow - Pipe Sergeant / Exec Member at Large
Mike is the former pipe major of the Long Island-based Northport Pipes and Drums. He joined CAPD in 2004. In addition to his pipe sergeant duties, he maintains the band's website.

Jim Dullea - Piper
Jim started piping after retiring from the Navy as a Captain with 26 years or service. Previously associated with the Loudon County Firefighters band, he joined CAPD as a recruit in 2008. Although still employed as a submarine naval architect, his true passion involves piping and sailing, although rarely can he find an opportunity to do both simultaneously!

Greg Duncan-Peters - Lance Sergeant Piper / Treasurer
Greg, as the Band Treasurer, makes certain that our money is in safe hands.... Potential sponsors feel free to contact Greg!!!

Kenny Flynt - Lance Corporal Piper
Kenny joined the band in 2006 after having taken a break from bagpipes to pursue his college education. In 2010 he started competing as a soloist and in 2012 succeeded in being promoted to Grade 2 piper status. Congratulations, Kenny!

Donna Franklin - Band Staff
Donna has rendered a valuable service to the band as our resident videographer. As a result, we can now view the good, bad and the ugly of our performances.

Cory Gillette - Piper
Cory came to CAPD in 2010 from the Mystic Highland Pipe Band in Connecticut. His love for the bagpipes started as a child when he lived in Scotland. He began playing the bagpipes in 2004 after returning from the Middle East with the Army.

Barry Goldberg - Piper
A lifelong devotee of British military bands, Barry is delighted to be a piper in the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums.He's also a retired Internal Revenue Services executive who carries on a love/hate relationship with the Washington Nationals baseball team.

John Gustafson - Sergeant Drummer
Former Pipe Major and now a dedicated member of the drum rank... John got into bagpipes when nobody else liked them! Three favorite things: Grand Prix Racing, Bagpipes and the Matterhorn... not necessarily in that order!

Thomas Haman - Sergeant Drummer
Tom, as leader of the drum section and Bass Drummer, provides the heartbeat of the band. One of our most consistent and reliable performers. He makes his living doing theatrical lighting design.

Joe Hefferon - Sergeant Piper
We're not quite certain what Joe does for a living as he has informed us that "if he tells us he would then have to kill us"???? Among his many talents, Joe acts as our band executive chef, making sure we all get well fed at highland games.

Carl Hunt - Recruit Piper
Carl joined the band as a recruit piper in 2010. He preveiously served as pipe major of the Fairfax County Deputy Sheriff's pipe band.

Richard Hunter - Corporal Piper
Richard returned to piping in 2003 after a hiatus of over 30 years. He originally learned the pipes at the College of Wooster (Ohio) in the 1960s and later was a member of the Balmoral Highland Pipe Band in Syracuse, New York. In addition to playing with CAPD he is drum major of the Prince George's County (Maryland) Police Pipe Band. In 2009 he retired from the Library of Congress, married Ann, his college sweetheart, and moved from Alexandria to Baltimore, but commutes regularly to practices and performances.

Sallie Hutcheson- Drummer
Sallie joined CAPD in 2009, rediscovering a love of snare drumming she first developed as a member of an all-girls fife and drum corps in her high school years in Williamsburg, VA. Coincidentally, that band also wore a Scottish-inspired uniform.

Susan Hyams - Piper/Dance Director
A grade 3 piper, Susan started bagpipe and dance lessons with Lezlie Paterson Webster in Massachusetts. She went to St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinberg, NC, where she played in the college pipe band under P/M Bill Caudill. A member of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, Susan is the founder and director of the Thistle Dancers, a group of talented dancers who perform the traditional dances of Scotland (often accompanied by the City of Alexandria Pipes and Drums).

Charles King - Corporal Piper
Charles has been with CAPD since 2008 and played bagpipes for a number of years prior to joining the band. He occupies the Ratiu Chair of Romanian Studies in the School of Foreign Services at Georgetown University. An expert on eastern Europe, nationalism, and ethnic conflict, Charles has lectured widely on these topics and has worked with broadcast media ranging from CNN and the BBC to the History Channel and MTV.

Pam Levy - Corporal Piper
Pam joined the band in 2002. At home she plays bagpipes with canine continuo.

Rhett Lowery - Recruit Piper
Many years ago while watching “Brigadoon” one night, and replaying the bagpipe scenes over and over, Rhett decided that this was an instrument he wanted to play. He also rings handbells and sings in his church choir.

Wayne Lowery - Sergeant Piper/Quartermaster
Proving that it’s never too late to begin a new hobby, Wayne took up the bagpipes after reaching the mid-century mark. He joined our ranks in 2007. In 2008 he took on the Band Quartermaster position and has been done a tremendous job of keeping us in fine form!

Stephen MacLeod - Piper
Steve Joined band in Spring 2010 along with several members from the Fairfax County Deputy Sheriffs Pipes and Drums. He plays ice hockey and works in the 5-sided wind tunnel (a.k.a. Pentagon).

Jim McGillivray - Recruit Piper
No, not that Jim McGillivray, but a cousin of the same. Our Jim comes has played in a number of renowned pipe bands including the Midlothian Pipe Band (Chicago) and Stonehaven (U.K.). He's an attorney working for the U.S. Federal Government.

Leslie McIntyre - Recruit Piper
Leslie is an accomplished Scottish dancer and member of the Thistle Dancers. She has been practicing pipes with CAPD over the past year.

Michael McLean - Lance Corporal Piper
A Grade 3 soloist piper and long time CAPD member, Michael "Mac" McLean returned to the band in 2006 after an overseas job assignment in Italy. While there, he played with the City of Rome Pipe Band.

Chris Moss - Lance Corporal Piper
Chris is the only member of the band that is into curling (nothing to do with hair) and "old crows"!

Jeff Noble - Recruit Drummer
Jeff joined the band as a raw recruit in 2010 and is learning the ins and out of the tenor drum.

Joe Ogulin - Corporal Piper
When not working at his job in information technology or playing the bagpipes, Joe can be found at local skating rinks, where he spends his time as a hockey referee.

Glenn Page - Piper
Glenn hails from the land down under--Australia. He joined the band in 2009 and is still convinced we all talk funny.

Gus Person - Piper
Gus is a retired New York City parole officer who now works as the official historian for Ft. Belvoir. He played for the Nassau County Police Emerald Society PipeBand before coming to CAPD in 2011. Interesting trivia ...Gus learned to play the pipes from an old Scotsman who helped build the Titanic!

J.J. Powers - Drum Major
J.J. is responsible for the Dress, Drill and Deportment of the band and anyone who has seen the band will attest to the outstanding job he does!

Ann Reesman - Lance Sergeant Piper
Ann began piping as part of a midlife crisis. She practiced employment law in D.C. before retiring to concentrate on her high G doublings. She is now responsible for maintaining revision control of our music repertoire as well as coordinating band attendance --for this we are extremely grateful!

Phil Rose - Piper
Phil started piping in his native England, where he played with Grade 2 Beeston and District pipe band before moving to the United States and joining Long Island's Inis Fada pipe band in the 1990s. He became a member of CAPD in 2000.

Alexis Stanszuk -Drummer
Alexis made her debut with the band in 2011 and has shown great progress in the drum ranks.We look forward to having her in the band for a long time.

Giovanni Sciannameo - Drummer
Giovannni joined CAPD in 2011, bringing a distinctive Italian flair to the drum ranks.He formerly served in the Carabinieri, the Italian national gendarmerie and a branch of the armed forces.

Jim Stickley - Sergeant Drummer
Jim joined CAPD in 2007, bringing with him many years of drumming experience. He was a member of the world famous Old Guard Fife and Drum Corp. In 2008, he took on the duties of Drum Sergeant/lead drummer and he has been doing an outstanding job in this leadership role.

Chris Tait- Drummer
Chris is a college student who joined the tenor ranks in 2008 and has been one of our most reliable members ever since.

Woody Taylor - Piper
Woody has been a piper with CAPD since 2010. He is a social worker by trade.

Matt Tourville - Drummer
Matt joined our drum ranks in 2007. He has a wealth of experience from playing with the world famous Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. He is also a founding member of Edsall Road, a popular Celtic Band in Northern Virginia.

Amber Tussing - Piper
Amber is a former member of the University of Mary Washington Eagles Pipe Band. She joined the pipe ranks in 2010.

Peter Walker - Lance Corporal Piper
Pete has been playing in the band since 2005. He has competed successfully in solos. In addition, Pete is an accomplished Scottish fiddler, and competed in the '04 and '05 US National Championships. When not playing music, Pete is a Space Physicist working at the Naval Research Laboratory.

Dan Walsh -Drummer
Dan's drumming background and dedication allowed him to make quick progress in joinging the band in 2011.

Randy Welch -Recruit Piper
An experienced piper, Randy recently has been practicing with CAPD and is fast learning the band repertoire.

Dottie Whitehead - Lance Corporal Drummer
Dottie has been an accomplished tenor drummer with local pipe bands for a number of years, and she joined CAPD in 2005.

Conrad Wong - Corporal Drummer
Conrad, in addition to being a tenor drummer, has another love: "American muscle cars".
